This is a picture of
my heart
unfolding
fragile beautiful thing—
like your heart and every heart.
Tender red beating
strong enough to push gallon
after gallon of blood
around and around
spinning dizzy
two thousand gallons
every day,
day after day.
Or it might just be a tulip.
Well, if you consider that a human body contains roughly 1.3 gallons of blood, and count an average heartbeat at 80bpm, that all of the blood in the body is pushed/pulled with every heartbeat, and such details… it’s roughly 150,00 gallons of blood moved every day 😉
Is this me being pedantic? Yes, it probably is a bit. Sorry!
I had recognised the tulip right away but love what you did with the photograph and the words!
(Tulips are one of my favourite flowers and I studied biology (as you could see in the first part of my comment 😜) so I notice the shape of stamens and pistil)
Glad to read you. ❤️
Pedantic? Hell no! I love that sort of knowledge-sharing! I am fascinated with both the poetics and the science of the body. Thank you for sharing that–wow!
I heart your comments so much, Dawn!
